About Me

Oh Hey! My name is Jenessa Williams, I'm 23 and I'm a 1st-Class Music Journalism graduate, writer and bloggy kinda gal - cool huh?

Born and raised in the south (unfortunately the south of England rather than the deep south like my Texan queen Beyonce), I relocated to West Yorkshire in 2011 to begin my glittering media career and now reside in not-so-sunny Leeds. I've been a fan of the ol' writing lark ever since I can remember, from making gel-penned 'magazines' in the primary school playground with my best friend Anna to launching my very own music blog at the tender (and suprisingly pretentious) age of 16.

Here on Jenessa Explains It All, I delve into my many interests - an obsession with obnoxiously bright clothing, thrift shopping, trash television and pop culture. I also like to dip my toe into feminism, politics, music reviews, black culture and the odd bit of millennial advice when I'm feeling particularly wise. Above all, I like to think of this site as a little hub for positivity - for celebrating all the things, people, art and culture I love and care about, so when I'm 90 years old I'll be able to look back and laugh at all the stupid things I wore (and how massive my hair really was).

I love taking on bits and pieces of freelance writing work - holler at me if you have a project you'd like me to help with! I'm super nice to work with and highly affordable, promise. I've been lucky enough to work with some of my favourite publications, including but not exclusive to -

  • NME
  • Judy's Affordable Vintage Digest
  • Homemaker Magazine
  • T'Hud - The University of Huddersfield Student Magazine
  • Time Out
  • The Guardian
  • Beacons Festival
  • Dork
  • Readers Digest
  • Vibrations
  • Counterfeit
  • The 405
  • LoveMusicnews
  • The Little Bricoleur - My very own magazine marketing solutions company

If you fancy asking me any questions/saying hi/swapping Drake memes with me, please get in touch with me via Twitter (@jnessr) or drop a comment on instagram (also @jnessr).

PR Opportunities

Jenessa Explains It All is a PR friendly blog, but I will only work on campaigns that I feel are true to my interests - if you think you've got something I might like, feel free to say hey via social media!
