OOTD: The One Where I Wish I Was Tavi Gevinson

Jumper: The Vintage Kilo Sale | Skirt: H&M | Socks: American Apparel | Shoes: Office | Tote Bag: Leeds Cockpit (RIP)

When I'm not spending my time attempting to channel my inner Beyonce, Janelle or Amandla, I spend quite a lot of time wishing I was Tavi Gevinson. For those not in the know, get off my blog, let me explain. Just 20 years old, Tavi is most well known for being one of the most noted success stories of 'full time bloggers' back in the early noughties, founding Style Rookie at just 12 years old. Like so many of us, she started out just posting her daily outfits on the internet, but quickly became interested in wider topics of pop culture and feminist discourse, turning the rebranded Rookie into a platform for teenage girls to carve out their own identities and find solace in the stories of others. I have hard copies of all four Rookie yearbooks and they've fast become treasured possessions of mine - an anthology of the exact sort of guidance I wished I'd had as a teenager. Something about Tavi and the inclusive environment she has created really inspires me, not to mention the empire she has created for herself at such an unbelievable age.

Sometimes when I get dressed, I find it helps to channel a particular person or aesthetic - it can be quite the motivator when you're going through a bit of a 'I'm not feeling my general appearance' phase. Something about this look reminded me of a Rookie photoshoot - a little bit preppy thanks to the sock shoe combo, but also a little bit underwhelming - skirt that's probably a bit too tight, wonky parting, spotty face, no make-up. There's something about this sort of 'bedroom blogging' that kind of appeals to me. Plus of course there's the fact that I've practically lived in this sweater since I found it at work - I've since purloined two other colours but the mustard is still number one. Let's face it - mustard will always be number one on my blog.

Whose style do you like to channel when you're getting dressed? Pop me a comment below or tweet me @jnessr, I'd love to know!
