Coat: The Vintage Kilo Sale | Roll Neck: Primark | Faux Leather Skirt: Zara | Loafers: New Look

On the whole, I think my boyfriend likes the way I dress. It's one of those lucky convenience things - I don't dress especially to please him, but he always seems to enjoy shopping with me - in fact, he's been known to pick out items for me that have been completely spot on before I've even realised I liked them. He has a really great sense of what suits me and I trust him completely when he says (tactfully of course) that something doesn't look quite right.

That said, this here coat was a bit of an anomaly. Spotted one of the rails at work (The Bethnal Green Kilo Sale, FYI), I had no idea how I would wear such an item but I knew I had to have it anyway - it screamed fun, warmth and character. Trying it on and parading down the queue of customers, general consensus was positive - I was totally rocking this coat, and it happened to work well with the tonal burgundy look I was already wearing. Swift texts to my boss, gal pals and mum were also team tiger/leopard/whatever animal print this is meant to be. There was only one naysayer - my delightful other half.

I don't hold it against him. 12 months ago I would have laughed with derision at the idea of sporting such a garment outside of a fancy dress party. But the more I've gotten into vintage, the more I've accepted that sometimes, it's alright to wear that piece that attracts attention. It's okay to snap up that item you love even if you can't put your finger on why, and it's totally okay to don what your other half considers absolutely fugly. I'm a firm believer that if you believe you look good, you can get away with almost anything, and considering that I'm trying to be a bit braver with my personal style, this seemed like a great place to start. Now, if only I could put my finger on what sort of print this is meant to be...
